Mark Van NordstrandFlight 3 of 3 today. Another complaint is how much power this video system is pullilng. Most of this 11 minutes is waiting for home-lock, which never happened, according the the Naza-M light. The go-home indicator in the Iosd did point in the right direction, but it might have been saved from a previous session. These are really short flights of five minutes, and the first warning is already triggering. With a questionable system I don't wanna push it, so I'm landing with 50% battery left. This flight I just wave back and forth, while watching the antenna. What's next, 2.4 Ghz video?

Mark Van NordstrandFlight 2 of 3. As you can see the video is NOT as clear as hoped for. Looks like noise in the power line, and there are signal drop-outs, just like with 5.8 Ghz. I'm just flying around LOS, trying to see if the new tracker design is following the aircraft. Is the 1.3 Ghz system goofing up the EZosd also? It's not tracking as precisely as the 5.8 Ghz system did.

Mark Van NordstrandFlight 1: Today's experiment tests a new 1.3 Ghz video system, all from ReadymadeRC.com. The transmitter is their "gold" 1.5w economy unit, the receiver is the "V4 with Comcast tuner" unit, and the antenna is the big patch made by L-Com mounted to my cigar box tracker. This initially blinded my Naza-M GPS unit, but I shielded it and now it works well enough to fly with. I don't think it ever got home-lock. More on next flight.

Mark Van NordstrandStarted flight 2, but it started sprinkling, so pulled her down. Did get video on this flight, you can judge if the pilot cam sandwiched between earplugs was a good idea. You'll also see that I re-installed the DJI Iosd mini, which is much easier to see. The EZosd is still aboard, just providing telemetry for the EZ antenna tracker.

Mark Van NordstrandToday's experiment tests three modifications: 1. Mounted the pilot camera between two earplugs, which seems to improve video. 2. Moved the DragonLink forward to just behind the GPS antenna. Will it interfere with GPS? seems not. 3. Shaved the insides of the rear arms with a Dremmel, to allow the battery to slide further forward and fix a tail-heavy condition. As I'm planning even heavier batteries this was a good idea. The arms didn't fall off, and she seems to lift off and descend better. Sadly the HobbyKing DVR failed to record the flight, but there's some dashcam footage of the tracker following the aircraft. Wind calm, KP = 3, Temp = 51.

Mark Van NordstrandToday's experiment: LC power filter for video system. Little better, but huge problems remain. Also few Hobby King vibration logger, and their voltage logger today. Tools arrived to crimp tiny connector pins, will remake all the cables to length and see if that helps.

Mark Van NordstrandSecond flight of day, so son CJ can take pictures and video of Christine, and take a turn flying. Repaired both my lipo batteries using instructions from youtube, not as difficult as expected. Figured out how to deal with artifacts from Hobby King SD DVR. Import into Microsoft Movie Maker, export to WMV, then edit and upload. Other problems remain.

Mark Van NordstrandToday's experiment is to test the antenna tracker. This will be an easy, local flight, watching the antenna more than the aircraft. It worked! Not sure yet if video quality better. Yellow balance wire fell out of battery, so tester thinks there's 4 volts. Telemetry says there's 16 so up we go.

Mark Van NordstrandSecond flight / battery of the day. Yellow wire fell out of this battery also. Good voltage so lets take a couple of laps around the park. EZ Antenna Tracker did save the compass heading, just had to re-home it before flight. Jet zooming around the area at warp 9, setting down a little early.

Mark Van NordstrandSecond flight of the day, trying to see if the monitor would be good at low level. Not yet. At least with the monitor it's easier to fly LOS for a minute. Miss some of the DJI Iosd info, like what mode it's in. And their way home indicator is much better. Video will be up later.
